The rarely produced, award winning play Angels in America opens at Chapel off Chapel on Friday 17 August. Angels explores three interlinked storylines, a corrupt lawyer, who is a closet gay man; a Mormon couple, the wife, who struggles through prescription drug addiction and the husband who struggles to face his suppressed homosexuality; and a homosexual couple whose once beautiful relationship is forced to endure the battle of long term illness, Aids. A passionate and emotional story that interlinks driven characters, exploring their human weaknesses; life, death and sexuality and above all a hope for humanity.

Winner of four Tony Awards and a Pulitzer, the playwright, Tony Kushner is renowned for works that create stories that give rise to social discussion. Throughout Angels in America, Kushner delivers messages to his characters via his haunting angel, presenting the audience with a piece that, whilst it never loses its wicked sense of humour, provides a wrenching grasp on issues to challenge and entice individuals to face their own demons and sexuality.
The Artistic Director of the piece, Peter Kalos has directed plays at the Lee Strasberg Theatre in Los Angeles and worked on plays and readings with Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Eli Wallach, Christopher Walkin and Martin Landau both at the Actor’s Studio and at the Lee Strasberg Theatre. Using cutting edge lighting and videography Kalos adds an extra dimension to this classic piece.
